FEEDBACK ON ATTEMPTS TO DISCUSS CERAMICS IN NUCLEAR SECTOR

In parallel to our research and development work we contacted many persons and institutions expecting discussions about pros and cons concerning the application of ceramics – and especially of SiC – in the nuclear sector.

In nearly all cases we attached comprehensive info-material to our letters or handed it out when meetings took place.

We addressed two main issues:

  • long-term immobilization of high radioactive waste (w) by encapsulation in SSiC
  • accident-tolerant nuclear fuel (f) with SSiC cladding
