Which type of material is suitable as immobilization barrier for waste respectively as cladding for fuel elements?
Following indispensable requirements have to be fulfilled:
- high corrosion resistance in acidic, neutral and basic environment
- high temperature stability at variable atmospheres
- high thermal conductivity and shock resistance
- diamond-like hardness
- radiation resistance
- gas tightness (no open pores)
- high mechanical, especially compression strength
