MONOLITHIC SSiC CANISTERS FOR HTR PEBBLES

In Germany an inventory of about 1 Mio. spent pebbles exists from the operation of two HTR demonstration reactors.

For their encapsulation we recommend a monolithic SSiC canister.

Together, body and lid have an SSiC mass of about 2 kg.

Assuming 3 pebbles per canister, about 340.000 canisters are required, resulting in a total amount of 680 tons of SSiC.
